Delay in Minimum Wage Increase for CA Healthcare Workers

On May 31, 2024, CA Governor Gavin Newsom signed SB 828 into law, postponing the minimum wage increase for California healthcare workers. Originally set to take effect on June 1, 2024, under SB 525, the new schedule will now begin on July 1, 2024.

How Much Are Health Care Worker Wages Increasing?

Under SB 525, minimum wages for covered healthcare employees will increase at different rates depending on the facility type. The starting rates range between $18 and $23 per hour.

The bill outlines five separate wage increase plans, which will gradually raise minimum wages to $25 per hour over several years. The longest plan aims to reach a $25 per hour minimum wage by 2033 for healthcare workers.
